Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required. 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an accredited center required. Preferred Board Certified Chaplain in good standing (or eligible for certification) as a Credentialed or Associate Chaplain with a national chaplaincy certifying body, such as the Spiritual Care Association, Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, and the National Association of Jewish Chaplains, required. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing psychosocial, emotional and/or spiritual support to diverse populations. Excellent interpersonal skills needed; ability to empathize and service-oriented attitude. Ability to demonstrate human interaction skills to successfully engage individuals, families and community groups in acquiring needed healthcare. Ability to exercise independent judgment with tact and diplomacy in all situations. Ability to maintain confidential information. Bilingual language proficiency a plus. Position will have a variable schedule, requiring working some evenings, nights and weekends. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
Responsibilities: The primary focus of the Community Healthcare Chaplain is to directly engage with patients, with the goal of developing a relationship of mutual trust and understanding. Their role will be one of a health coach, cultural intermediary, healthy lifestyle mentor, clinical care liaison and educator. Providing spiritual support within the healthcare setting to assist patients in utilizing resources to cope with a broad range of concerns brought on by their condition. The chaplain’s role is multi-faceted and assists in breaking the cycle of ineffective management of chronic diseases by providing comfort, posing questions, assisting families with challenges, and offering an anchor of spiritual strength. Their role provides an attentive listening presence to help bring about renewed hope and healing. Promotes health education and program development to support healthy lifestyle change. The Community Healthcare Chaplain assists patients in navigating the utilization of appropriate sources of care, behavioral health programs, and the utilization of social services, with the end goal of empowering patients to self-manage their health conditions. The Community Healthcare Chaplain works collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals and other community agencies to provide patients with opportunities to stabilize and improve their health.
